Miniature Dumbledore's Office Harry Potter

Dumbledore's Office seems to be a great miniature project. It is full of orrories and interesting things to see. My first job is the desk, and although it is beautiful, is quite complicated. Many hours on my silhouette cameo were spent to try to create layers so the panels could be constructed.

Then i turned my attention to the writing desk. At Michaels there was a dollhouse miniature seed display that could be converted to the angled writing piece on the desk. The back piece was cut off and then the angled piece was thoroughly sanded.

Next is carving in the markings.

Eventually when the desk is complete, both will be stained and varnished together.

Bird Stand
What a lucky find! Thrift stores are a great resource for items that can be converted and modified. The little bag that I found had a few stands that would be great for my bird stand and maybe a stand for a telescope. Never sniff at children's toys, they are usually the right size for dollhouse miniatures!
Here are the pieces I can use for the Dumbledore's Phoenix, Fawkes so he has a place to perch. They look like a Beauty and the beast set, or perhaps just a princess collection, but in any event, is perfect.

Using a miter box and small saw, the plastic pieces are sawed at the right places. One addition needed is a take-out butter container that is cut, reserving the bottom for the tray of the bird stand. This will be glued and painted.

My metallic paint is quite close to the colour of the stand and I am quite pleased. Next the perch is easy - a piece of skewer stick and 2 wooden beads. The end of the skewer is whittled a bit to fit in the arms of the stand that originally held a mirror, and fit the beads on.
Painting the perch and beads gold metallic.
Finished stand for Fawkes.

Next, making a stand for a toy telescope that I found previously. The next stand in my toy bag is a dressmakers stand. With a little sawing it will make a nice stand.

After making it a stand, it took awhile to figure out how to attach the telescope. The stand seemed a little short, so adding a few wooden buttons will work.

Using an eyelet from Michaels store (found in scrapbooking section) The telescope can be glued with crazy glue as the telescope is quite heavy.

All that is needed now is some painting

Lightly painting the desk, chair and writing piece.

.
Putting the desk together. I decided not to make drawers, but just put false drawers on.

These pictures don't really show the honey gold colour, but it does look better in real life. The chair has purple fabric for Dumbledore's desk chair. It came from an old t shirt.

more pictures along the way

Now the sanding, and varnishing.

Painting the gargoils to match the grey office.

Here are some photos of Dumbledore's Office at the almost complete stage. The desk is not complete, and I haven't attempted to make a Fawkes yet.

Some close ups: Bookshelf

Some portraits and Hogwarts crest.

stay tuned for more!
